Special Comic: “Dead Of Tokyo”
Alright…
This one might go over some of your heads, but I hope those that get it find it really funny.
See, Nick and I are kinda delightfully ignorant of the webcomic scene as a whole (we come from a background of print comics), but we are aware of the big names in the scene.
I’m sure the thought that we’re “attacking” another webcomic places the target on a certain video gaming based comic who recently jumped on the zombie thing, but no…that’s fun stuff, not to mention they seem like two of the nicest dudes in the field, especially for how large they are. Then there’s that other video gaming based comic who did the zombie thing, but no, that dude’s gained quite the ego along with a defined lack of appreciation toward his fans…plus I really wouldn’t want him trolling it up in the forum…
So we decided to skewer that comic by the white dude who calls himself a Mangaka. I respect the level of success that his comic has achieved, but I can’t say I respect the way he’s gone about it, nor how he conducts himself. Being able to do webcomics full time is an incredible privelage, one that we at Dead of Summer hope to do ourselves…
…but he seems to hate every minute of it. And tortures his fanbase with blogs ranting about how hard it is to do webcomics, and how he struggles to maintain the comic. To this we say…move on! If you hate what you do, why torment your readers with what you hate about it?
And it’s with this…we also make an important statement.
Dead of Summer is a webcomic that is completely dedicated to our fans. Those of you that exist, albet currently few (but surprising) in number when compared to the “pillars” of this growing field, make every comic a pleasure and moment of enjoyment for us. Should we ever get to do this full time, I promise you, an update will never be missed…a comic never half assed…a complaint never registered toward our fandom. Why? Because you let us live our dreams.
So with this silly comic parodying another…we look toward the future, and what’s in store. You guys have no idea.
