In case it’s not noticeable, I’m having a fantastically lazy Saturday.  Which means more blog content for you fine readers.  In any case, I’m still reading stuff from the San Diego Comic Con (home to nerds, awesome stuff, and apparently Kilika this weekend - you better tell me the Stan Lee story when you get back, bastard!).

One of the bigger announcements this weekend was the new team taking on Astonishing X-Men.  For those of you who don’t follow the costumes and capes books, Astonishing X-Men is/was, in my opinion, the only X-Book worth reading, featuring the stellar writing of Joss Whedon (yeah, of Buffy/Firefly fame), with the jaw-dropping art of John Cassiday.  After a 2 year run (actually, more like 4, due to the bi-monthly release schedule), they wrap up this year.

In turn, coming in ‘08 is Astonshing X-Men: Second Stage.  With the new title comes a  new creative team.  Handling the art is Italian-born Simone Bianchi, who does simply stellar work (as seen above), and the writing?  The delightfully demented Warren Ellis, of Transmetropolitan and Nextwave fame. (If you haven’t read Nextwave, get on it, before I punch you. Yes, all of you. It’s 2 trades, totally worth it.)

ANYWAY, comic site du jour Newsarama got an exclusive interview with Warren Ellis about the jump, and it’s a hell of a great, hilarious, and demented read. Here’s a choice quote to get you interested.

WE: Oh, the usual, you know. Raping your childhoods, using my position to destroy everything you love, displaying opinions you may not agree with and writing with my own voice and personality. All the things people hate in commercial comics these days. And yet, all the things I am specifically hired for. It’s a funny old world.
