What Else, But?

August 2nd, 2007 by Brian

Marty’s Note: Hey gang, this is the first post from Brian, a good buddy of us here at DoS. He’ll be joining us in the blogging fun. Enjoy!

The ElseSomething that very recently almost passed under my radar was some brand new TMBG. The Else, an album that’s long overdue but well worth it, snuck into store shelves this past July with a bonus disk of all new material. Produced by the Dust Brothers (who have one of the most purposefully painful to look at websites I’ve ever laid eyes upon this side of Killer Japanese Seizure Robots), this album is chock-full-o’ the TMBG folks have loved for the past 20 years while also sounding notably new and different. I’ve been likening it to the John Henry of the 2000’s.

Certainly check it out if you get the chance, and also note that they’ll be in town on September 12th at Ram’s Head Live. Herein lies a very awesome ancillary bonus–They Might Be Giants has taken to selling all of their professionally recorded live shows in drm-free MP3 format via their website. Go to the show and then buy it soon afterwards for about $10. I’d like to see more of this sort of thing from other bands. It’s very proactive and forward thinking.

Oh, and by the way, I’m new here. Hi, and such.
