Rasputina @ Ottobar

The undefinable, historical and cello riot known as Rasputina will be causing rapture in Baltimore this Wednesday, August 8th. Putting a twist on the Russian Mystic’s name known as Rasputin, this band has captivated many among all. I mean the historical and relative Hellboy reference (for me) alone has my attention. Oh, and it only gets better.

Since their start in 1992 (or the beginning they credit which is 1891,) the band has been on the road with artists like Bob Mould, Porno for Pyros and Marilyn Manson and has worked with members of Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana. Melora Creager (founder and member) played cello for Nirvana on the European leg of the In Utero world tour including the band’s final show in Munich. See, I told you it would get better.

So, what are they up to now? Oh Perilous World, the band’s sixth full length album was released June 26th of this year. It includes the song 1816: The Year Without A Summer which tells the tale of historical catastrophic weather patterns and it just so happens to be linked to when Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein. Also, in addition to this album you can find the song Coraline on the tribute to Neil Gaiman album.

If all of this isn’t enough for you there is more. I’m sure I’ll be back for seconds. The band’s website is http://rasputina.com and I’d recommend the wikipedia page as well.

Wow.
