#17 Candy Corn. Where the hell does it come from?
George Renninger, (a candy factory worker) invented Candy Corn in the 1880’s. Originally, the candy composed of sugar, honey and corn syrup was made by hand due to the lack of machinery. Produced by the Wunderle Candy Company by 1990, the Goelitz Candy Company, now known as Jelly Belly, started mass producing the product. It’s available year round and if you need a day to celebrate this wonderful confectionery prize, you get your chance. October 30th is National Candy Corn Day.
Fun fact: More than 35 million pounds of candy corn will be produced this year. That equates to nearly 9 billion pieces—enough to circle the moon nearly 4 times if laid end-to-end.
