Well, it certainly does appear that in lieu of having a comic, we’re becoming your source for all things related to The Dark Knight .
You, dear reader, may be asking yourself…why are we so hyped for the movie? Neither Nick nor I are huge DC Comics fans (personally, unless it’s a stand alone tale like Kingdom Come , The Dark Knight Returns , or The New Frontier , or the great Dini/Timm series, I’ve never really gotten into it.), and hell, Nick’s not even a big fan of Batman Begins .
And sure, new posters like the one above (just leaked to the web), and cam-shot versions of the trailer (like the YouTube video below) get our nerd juices a-flowin’, but what is keeping me so excited?
A movie called The Prestige .
Btw, if anyone bought me this poster for Christmas, I’d love them forever…
For those of you who haven’t seen it, and SHAME on you (the DVD’s like $15 or less these days), The Prestige was one of the dueling magician flicks that came out in Fall ‘06, featuring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as heated rivals. When a group of us saw it in theaters, we were mostly seeing it on the joking nerd concept of “OH SNAP! IT’S BATMAN VERSUS WOLVERINE.”
What we got? A movie I now hold as one of my all time favorites. Without giving anything anyway, the flick builds to two crucial twists…and what makes it truly brilliant? Upon 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. viewings…you see how the script reveals these twists throughout the entire movie…in front of the viewer…without the viewer even noticing. Just like a magic trick.
It’s a screenplay that I hold very highly, and it’s meticulous, well-planned out nature is due to one man. Christopher Nolan.
Now of course, Nolan directed Batman Begins , but the script was the handiwork of David Goyer (who you may remember from the Blade movies). In the case of The Dark Knight? The script is being handled by Nolan. Nolan (who also did the mindblowing Memento) is a known perfectionist, and if his prior screenplays are ANY indication, this could not just be one of the best comic book movies ever, but simply put, a fantastic flick.
By the by, that Dark Knight trailer? Attached to I Am Legend this weekend…and should hit the web (in GLORIOUS HD) this Monday. Exciting.
And SPEAKING of Monday, we’ll finally, really, be back then. Sorry for all of the delays. Hope we’re keeping you entertained in the meantime!

The Clown Prince of Gotham FTW!
Again and again and again.
Holy crap. That looks freakin amazing.
I think there will be room on the walls for that one.
I can not wait to see some toys from Ledger’s Joker.
I hope they will be good.
