Cello Hero
February 24th, 2008 by BrianThere are two things about modern mp3 players that have interested me recently, specifically the nature of the random algorithms. On a very positive side, it allows me to listen to several songs in a row that have no good reason on this Earth to be following each other. This is the sort of randomness that makes my days at work just slip by. It’s simply fun to be taken aback by the transition from They Might Be Giants to Outkast to Slip Knot and then to A Little Fall of Rain from the Les Miserables soundtrack. My mind is effectively blown by these musical tangents.
The other, more confusing item is how I’ve had roughly 2,000 songs in my Zen Vision:M for about a year now and still have yet to hear some songs I have loaded. In some instances, I’ve yet to hear some ARTISTS at all. This realization struck me earlier today when I happened to hear something I haven’t heard in a long time. It’s one of the most awesome things to ever happen ever.
Apocalyptica was one of those discoveries that I remember vividly. It was ten years ago and I was working at a bookstore. One of my co-workers was a huge metal fan and we were discussing how some classically trained metal guitarists compose stuff that sounds right out of an orchestra. She winked and said to me, “you’re not the only one who thinks that.” After having forgotten about them for a few years, I’m pretty eager to look into what they’ve been up to.

A good cello can do wonders.
I’ve always wanted to get their albums.
I think it’s about time I got on the ball as well.
