Bring Out Your Undead!

As I continue to follow all of the news coming out for the 4th Edition of D&D, I stumble upon some things that may or may not have been done intentionally, but show a sign of cleverness and good humor on the part of the game designers. For instance, just this week Wizards of the Coast released a Monster Manual excerpt on the Undead. Their focus–Zombies.

Pertinent, I know. But what set these zombies apart from their appearance in previous iterations of the game is that they seem far, far more zombie-like in their powers and stats. Zombies have better defined GRAB attacks that hold you still while characters are feasted upon, and one zombie has a RISE AGAIN ability that brings it back at half Hit Points the round after it’s been defeated. They seem to have gotten basic zombie precepts and have administrated them fairly well.

There’s even a Zombie HULK that has a Zombie SMASH power. This is especially funny when consider that Zombies in D&D traditionally have a SLAM attack, but the HULK SMASHES!!! ::snicker:: ::chortle:: ::snort::

So annyway, it’s got me thinking of running a zombie survival horror themed game at some point where the player characters are low level humans (maybe even MINIONS) with few powers trying to flee a zombie infested village. Hmmm….

In the meantime, check out WotC’s Zombie PDF that lays out the stats from the Monster Manual. Go ahead, get your zombie on.
