On The Road
Hey folks. I know it’s been some time since my last update but I just wanted to chime in to let you know I’m still around. Super Art Fight 4 was a blast and Otakon went well. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported myself and other fantastic artists.
This weekend I will traveling up to Connecticut for ConnectiCon. I’ll be set up in Artist Alley working on commissions and selling comic merch. I’ll also be doing an Art Fight. You can expect me to be returning to blog more on regular basis next weekend. Once I return from ConnectiCon, I’ll be moving into a wonderful new house with my lady and beginning to settle in.
Thanks for reading. I forward to seeing you in about a week or so.
Stay Awesome
Super Art Fight 4 Update
SUPER ART FIGHT 4 IS ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!
The show will kick off with a 6 person Battle Royale. Here is your talent:
- Dirk Tiede - The creator/artist behind the online manga Paradigm Shift, Tiede joins us all the way from Boston, MA, and intends to bring his craft to a new level on the Super Art Fight canvas!
- Kelsey Wailes - Having built her name on DeviantArt, Kelsey is a diverse artist who can not only wow you with her skill at adorable chibi art, she can also make your jaw drop with realistic portraits. Best known for her pop culture referencing art, she’s armed with the tools to take on not just her fellow competitiors, but also the omni-present Wheel of Death.
Just announced:
- Kaitlin Smallwood - A friend and rival to Kelsey Wailes, Kaitlin brings an anime styled discipline to Super Art Fight. She’s been wowing viewers at DeviantArt, but can she take her skills to the next level at the Ottobar?
- Bryan Prindiville - Bryan’s taken on the massive canvas before at Katsucon 15’s Iron Artist VIII as part of a team with Applegeek’s Mohammed “Hawk” Haque, but he’s never been a part of Super Art Fight proper. He’s wowed our roster with his diverse comic work as illustrator of Hello With Cheese and as creator of Bedlam Court, but how will he hold up against five opponents and without a partner?
- Robin Edwards - As part of the wildly popular Strawberry Comics collective, Robin has cut her teeth in the comics world with such series as Cardboard Angel, TV Circuit, Hang In There Shimura, and Fractured Kisses. But she looks to strike out beyond her “cute” artistic stylings and bring the PAIN as part of the “Do or Die” Battle Royale! Will July 16th be her night?
- Chris Flick - Last, but far from least, is Chris Flick, the artist/creator of Capes & Babes. Chris brings two major strengths to the table in this first ever six way art fight…his experience, and his traditional cartooning style. Flick brings time-tested fundimentals to the Battle Royale, and it is his adherence to these classic styles which may give him the inside advantage over his risk-taking opponents.
Each artist will compete for 30 minutes on a themed topic. The winner wins a spot on the Super Art Fight roster. Tickets are still available here. Don’t miss it. This show will sell out!
Super Art Fight 4 Update
All week Super Art Fight dot com has been updating with news and commentary. Here’s some of what you may have missed.
We find that Nick Borkowicz & Jamie Baldwin have apparently formed an alliance?
It’s not enough that he was voted Best in Baltimore by the City Paper. He’s talking smack behind my back, now. OH THE NERVE!
On the SAF site you, also find links for flyers and tickets. Help make Super Art Fight the best show around. Click here to visit.
Daybreakers Trailer
It took the weekend for this trailer to settle in with me. The first time I saw it, I was midly confused. My brain seemed scrambled because with immortal beings like vampires that have been around hundreds of years, how do you get to the point where you run out of humans? Seems rather odd to all of a sudden have no food. The idea of infection or vampire plague spreads wild in Daybreakers. I know this film is setting up for a trilogy but I’m not quite sure it will have the mass appeal it seeks. The popularity could be as contained as the unique angle this film has on the genre itself.
Personally, I think Daybreakers looks fun. Especially with it’s solid cast of acting. It’s refreshing to not have the same old vampire stories. I hope Daybreakers catches on for the mainstream audience. It looks promising. Plus, it’s a nice alternative given the success and somewhat permanence of Twilight.
Simpsons Style Ghostbusters
Dean Fraser is the artist that runs the blog Springfield Punx. Not only can you see the latest icons turned Springfield style there, you can also see some great wallpapers. He also has an art site here. If you have a few minutes, viewing these sites is good fun. From comics to television, Dean has got you covered.
Super Art Fight 4 Update
As you can see above, Super Art Fighter Jamie Baldwin was all kinds of ready to continue her campaign to find an opponent for her open challenge for Super Art Fight 4 at The Ottobar on July 16th.
Or at least we think that’s what her new manager was trying to say. Apparently, the Super Art Fight cameras can no longer be graced with the presence of Ms. Baldwin. Or so her lawyer says.
Anyway, as we went to tape, a mysterious letter was delivered by running courier.
That letter contained an answer to her challenge. A duplicate copy of this letter was also forwarded to the SAF Championship Committee, who were humbled by the opponents commitment to an outdated delivery system.
Her opponent at Super Art Fight 4?
Christopher “Chris ‘Impact’ Impink” Impinkerlli!
Chris Impink has been on the losing side of the Art Fight world for far too long, and as the man who without his Iron Artist competition we wouldn’t even be here with, he has a bone to pick with Ms. Baldwin and her sudden change of attitude.
So, on Thursday Night, July 16th at the Ottobar, one night before Otakon 2009, the challenge will be answered. Baldwin will have to put up, or shut up, as it will be—
Jamie Baldwin vs. Chris Impink.

R.I.P Michael Jackson
Aside from the media circus Michael Jackson’s life had become, there is no doubt this man transcended it in leaving behind his legacy. A part of my youth died yesterday. A part of everyone’s youth. While I wasn’t the biggest MJ fan, the hole in my heart says otherwise. Children today have no idea what is was like to grow up and see Thriller or any other high bugeted movie production music video change society the way his did. MJ’s work will live on to influence the lives of everyone. I look forward to the tributes and respects the world holds for this iconic, pop star hero. There will be no other. He was truely a magician for those who believed.
Super Art Fight 4 Update
In the video above, Marty and Ross of Super Art Fight talk some details about the Royale Rumble. Meanwhile, I look like a classy gentleman and talk about ducks here. It’s all relative, no worries. Tickets are now on sale for SAF4 here. If you are coming to the show, it helps to get your tickets ahead of time. Not only will you secure your entry but it lets the club know you like us. Plus with the ‘fresh to town’ Otakon crowd, you won’t want to be left out in the heat with the angry over dressed hobos. Did I mention I made this sweet poster?
New District 9 Update! Level 5 Alert.
As August 14th approaches, the excitement levels for this film can only go higher. District 9 is based on the short film Alive in Joburg, directed by Neill Blomkamp. A group of Aliens land in South America while the Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology, seeks to suck them dry of their resources. Probably by any means necessary. Check out the trailer here. Usually a story like this has a rebel seeking liberation for the oppressed. If these ‘Non Humans’ are hostile, that is a conflict to celebrate for cinema. However, I can’t confirm that angle. So far it just seems like EPIC DEATH is inevitable. I hope this film is amazing. Fingers are crossed. Be sure to click the link at the top and watch the short film Alive in Joburg. Just…wow.
